Microneedling and microchanneling are minimally-invasive, non-surgical, skin-tightening procedures for the face and neck. Microneedling and microchanneling treatments stimulate the natural production of collagen. They effectively alleviate facial wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scars while tightening and toning the face and neck.
Microneedling and microchanneling are excellent alternatives to heat treatment to avoid post-inflammatory reactions to the skin.
How Microneedling and Microchanneling Work
When applied to the skin under topical anesthesia, sterile microneedles are used to create many microscopic channels deep into the dermis of the skin that can stay open for up to 4 to 6 hours. These micro-injuries to the skin stimulate your skin’s healing response and boosts its natural collagen and elastin production to improve skin tone, reduce pore size, and fade acne scars and stretch marks.

Patients also experience a quicker recovery time than with other skin-resurfacing treatments.
What To Expect from Microneedling and Microchanneling
While microneedling and microchanneling are very similar in application and benefits, they differ in the type of device used to administer treatment.
Thirty to 45 minutes before microneedling or microchanneling treatment begins, a numbing cream is applied to your face.
Once your face is numb, your provider begins the microneedling treatment using a handheld device with short, fine needles to make tiny pinpricks on your skin’s surface. For microchanneling, a pen-like device is used, and it delivers stamping motions to the skin, allowing for a more precise application that gently and effectively penetrates the skin.
Different growth factor serums can be applied on top for an extremely effective treatment to stimulate collagen and elastin growth while fighting against fine lines and scarring.
Once the treatment is finished, a calming serum or balm is applied to your face to help soothe any redness and irritation.
Recovery After Microneedling or Microchanneling Treatment
After treatment, you will have some redness, swelling, and sensitivity for about 3 days. If your skin is fair, you’ll stay pink for a day or two longer.
Because microneedling and microchanneling create tiny wounds, your skin will be susceptible to infection for up to 3 days after your treatment. Stick to gentle hydrating products and be especially vigilant in protecting your skin with SPF.
