Hair Restoration

At Warmuth Institute of Dermatology, we offer hair restoration services to increase hair growth, thickness, and length.

Hair loss is a natural phenomenon. On average, we may lose anywhere from 50 to 100 hair strands a day. In some cases, however, hair loss is more extensive, and a lack of adequate regrowth of new hair can cause receding hairlines, thinning hair, bald patches, and eventually balding, sometimes prematurely and other times due to advanced age. Thankfully, science has progressed enough to provide effective treatment options to prevent thinning hair and balding and encourage hair regrowth.

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata is a condition that causes hair to fall out in patches. This occurs when the body attacks the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. However, in most cases, the affected person is otherwise completely healthy. Alopecia areata is not limited to the scalp and may affect any part of the body, resulting in bald patches of eyebrows, eyelashes, face, or other body parts. The hair does grow back for most people but it may fall out again. Alopecia causes unpredictable hair loss and when it occurs on the scalp it tends to be more noticeable due to the patchy baldness it causes.

Hair loss can greatly affect an individual’s life and while there is no cure for alopecia areata, treatment options do provide ways to slow down hair loss and encourage hair regrowth. The condition can be difficult to predict, and it is good to consult an experienced dermatologist who can help you find a treatment option that works for you.

Viviscal Professional

Viviscal Professional is a hair growth treatment that includes hair vitamins and hair products that encourage hair growth and a fuller head. The Viviscal treatment includes dietary marine supplements and hair thickening products that have shown beneficial results. Amino acid-rich proteins in the Viviscal supplements provide your body with the nutrients it needs to help with healthy and stronger hair growth.

While the Viviscal regimen recommends using Viviscal hair products to support the vitamin supplements, you can choose to take the vitamins alone. You can also opt to take vitamin supplements and Platelet-rich restoration methods, such as hair transplants and platelet-rich plasma treatments.

Most people will see results in approximately 2 to 4 months, depending on the speed of hair growth.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is a popular medically and scientifically backed option for treating hair loss. This treatment uses the platelets from your blood to stimulate hair follicles for new hair growth and increase hair length. PRP works wonderfully well when combined with other clinically proven solutions for hair loss, including oral supplements and topicals. Adding a microneedling treatment with PRP is also effective for stimulating collagen and skin tissue.

During PRP treatment, blood is drawn from the patient’s body and then run in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells and plasma in it. The platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the scalp where the hair follicles reside, and where there is evidence of hair thinning. While injections and blood drawing may sound worrying, the process itself causes minimum discomfort and does not generally need anesthetics to be administered to the patient. The plasma is injected with meticulous precision to ensure even distribution in affected areas. Once the plasma has been injected, the growth factors in the platelets trigger natural cell regeneration and tissue renewal and result in new hair growth. Optimal results will usually need three treatments at appropriately spaced intervals and maintenance treatments thereafter.

Before the treatment, it is vital to inform your dermatologist about any medication you are on to be aware of any blood thinners or other anticoagulants that you might be taking.
